An Interview With Dynamic Discs
Dynamic Discs has been around the block and are powerful players in the disc golf arena (no pun intended). We were lucky enough to metaphorically sit down with Bobby Brown, Dynamic Discs’ Media Director, to chat about the sport, running their business, and love in the time of COVID-19.

How has Dynamic Discs dealt with the surge in demand brought on by the global pandemic?
At the beginning of the pandemic, there was so much uncertainty. At one point, we were trying to figure out if we were going to have to shut down our operations. Thankfully we were able to continue working within local guidelines. Staff members that were able to work from home did so which helped us practice social distancing.
Then the surge hit. People were looking for activities to do outside and disc golf was one of those activities. It has been amazing to see the growth of the sport. Hearing about the number of discs we were shipping out was mind-boggling. Then I noticed how empty the shelves looked and that Latitude 64 was working overtime to make more discs. I know it has been frustrating for people to not be able to purchase their favorite discs, but we are working hard to get more discs available.
How do you choose which new disc molds to create, and which old ones to make obsolete?
With new molds, we try to look for gaps in our lineup. We take feedback from our followers and our team members. We might also look at a popular disc and explore how we might tweak it.
When making decisions to make a disc obsolete, the numbers don’t lie. We take a look at how fast a product moves or does not move. If something has been sitting on the shelves at disc golf pro shops and therefore sitting on our shelves here at the distribution center, we have to take a hard look at why. There could be many reasons, but in order to keep up with demand sometimes we have to take a mold out of production to keep up with molds that sell really well.
What can we expect from Dynamic Discs in the next 1-3 years?
We have just moved into a new warehouse and that has been a project in the works for a couple of years. Just a few years ago we moved into a 20,000 square foot warehouse and as we grew we knew we needed more space, but we tried to be smart about expanding. We purchased containers that we would put in our parking lot. We rented warehouse space across the street. We finally had to make the move to a bigger space so that we could be more efficient in our process. We believe we can achieve this goal in our new-to-us 80,000 square foot warehouse. For the next couple of years, we are going to work on really utilizing this new space to continue to grow our distribution side of the business.

We also have some plans for our current retail store here in Emporia, Kansas but I am not sure I can share details on that quite yet. But I can’t wait for people to hear what we have planned for our retail store and downtown Emporia, Kansas.
What do you look for in the players you choose to sponsor?
Whether they are running events or just active in their disc golf community, we are looking for people that make a positive impact on their disc golf community. We are not quick to put someone on our team just because they play well.
Why should qualified players choose a sponsorship with Dynamic Discs?
We are not the flashiest brand out there in disc golf. But we are a brand that creates a family culture. When you become part of the team we welcome you like family. It sounds like a cliche… I know. We genuinely care about our team’s success. Whether they are out touring full-time or back in their hometown running events, we want to see them grow as the sport grows.
With so much choice available, what makes Dynamic Discs unique from other brands?
Our players and our staff. We have always strived to give our customers the best experience possible. We treat customers with the same care and respect that we would want to be treated with from a business. We do not always get it right, and we are thankful when a customer gives us the opportunity to fix our mistakes. We believe in our discs so much that participating stores use our Buyback program that allows you to bring back any disc from Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, and Westside Discs within 14 days of purchase if you are not completely satisfied and get credit toward another disc that can be used on any other manufacturer.
We also run the largest disc golf event in history, the Dynamic Discs Open (formerly Glass Blown Open). For over 18 years the town of Emporia, KS (Dynamic Discs HQ) has become what we like to call, “Disc Golf Disneyland.” In 2019 we had nearly 2,500 competitors and spectators in town for a week full of disc golf and other activities.

We are also one of the most transparent brands out there. We believe that the customer is part of our journey as disc golf grows. We have a show on our YouTube channel where you get updates on our company straight from the CEO and Founder, Jeremy Rusco. Viewers can ask questions directly to Jeremy about upcoming products and promotions.
At the end of the day, why should players try Dynamic Discs?
There are a lot of great disc golf brands out there and I truly believe we are among the best. We have a complete line of discs, bags, and baskets for every stage of a person’s disc golf journey. We do more than sell disc golf equipment, we help with course designs, school programs to bring disc golf to students, and tutorials to help improve your disc golf game.
Conclusion
Massive thanks to Bobby Brown and the team at Dynamic Discs for taking their time to answer our questions. It makes us love the brand all the more.
