What’s in Kevin Jones’ Bag?

Kevin Jones has been a model of consistency over the last few years. He likes to “mold courses to his game” as he has gone on to thirteen top-ten finishes this year. A unique aspect of his game is how he releases his discs on the “Kevin Jones hyzer angle.” This allows him to throw various flight paths out of this consistent release. PA-3 (350G) 3 / 4 / 0 / 1 – The PA-3 is a stable putt and approach disc that provides straight approaches to nail your putts. It’s a favorite for players of all skill levels.

“I like 350G plastic because it is really hard and it has no give when you’re trying to putt and spring the disc off your fingers.”

PA-1 (750G) 3 / 3 / 0 / 2 – The PA-1 is an overstable putt and approach disc. It’s a favorite among players for its consistency and reliability in all conditions.

“If I throw this on my favorite hyzer angle, the Kevin Jones hyzer angle as I like to call it…there’s no flip up at all. It just rides the angle all the way to the ground.”

Midranges

M4 (400G) 5 / 5 / -1 / 1 – The M4 is a slightly understable mid in the Prodigy line. This disc is excellent for beginners, tunnel shots, and turnover throws. This disc is a favorite of the top pros for long controlled straight shots.

“It’s a really workable disc in the woods. I don’t have to throw it very hard to get great use out of this disc.”

M1 (750G) 5 / 4 / 0 / 3 – The Prodigy M1 is a reliable overstable midrange perfect for power throwers that want to avoid turning over. This disc is consistent and reliable in all wind conditions.

“This one has no turn whatsoever…There is no turn to the right even in the wind and I can get it to just cruise and do very comfortable lines.”

A3 (750G) 4 / 4 / 0 / 3 – The A3 is an overstable utility disc that fills the gap between midranges and putters. The A3 is perfect for strong to above average throwers who want to avoid the possibility of their shot turning over. The disc is consistent and reliable in all wind conditions and perfect for short, trick shots as well as high wind approach shots. The A3, like the A1, is beaded.

“These are by far my favorite discs that Prodigy has made…They don’t have much glide so they’re falling to the ground fast, they’re very easy to control and the most important thing is they’re very torque resistant.”

A2 (750G) 4 / 4 / 0 / 3 – The A2 is the beadless cousin of the A1. This disc is perfect for power throwers who want to avoid turning over their upshots, and who need a disc that they can trust in headwinds.

“It’s got tons of stability and it fights harder to the ground. Unlike the A3s this disc will land on an angle when it comes to the ground.”

Fairway Drivers

H4 V2 (400) 10 / 5 / -2 / 1.5 – The H4 V2 provides performance for all levels of power on the course. This slightly understandable hybrid driver provides ideal control and dependability with increased speed and glide. Whether you’re a pro or an amateur, you’ll find consistency with the H4 V2 on long, gliding shots.

“It’s great for rollers but it’s also great to throw on my favorite angle and get it to flip up past flat. But it’s also great for some cruise to the right and then back to the left.”

F5 (400G) 7 / 5 / -2 / 1 – The Prodigy F5 is a straight flying fairway driver that’s not quite as understable as the current F7. This disc is very domey and has a rim width of 1.8cm, just like all the other Prodigy fairway drivers.

“This disc almost actually single-handedly won me the Majestic last year. I was throwing this disc on their really difficult wooded holes all over the course and I was making shots that were just a lot more difficult for other players.”

H1 (750G) 10 / 3 / 0 / 3.5 – The H1, or Hybrid 1, is a very overstable speed 10 driver that fills the gap between the X1 and the F1. Prodigy says that it is extremely overstable for 90% of disc golfers, highly predictable, and will become a favorite for both sidearm and overhand throws. While no longer in production, Prodigy now offers an H1 V2 as a re-engineered, overstable, fast-flying, Hybrid Driver that has evolved from the original H1.

“It’s not in production anymore but you can find them around…It has zero turn to the right…For those of you that like flattop Firebirds this is the equivalent for that.”

Distance Drivers

D2 (400G) 12 / 6 / -1 / 3 – The Prodigy Disc D2 is a very fast, overstable driver that is designed for strong throwers. Just slightly less stable than the D1, this driver is good in all conditions and flies just as well into the wind as it does with the wind.

“My distance drivers are locked. I have a bunch actually but they’re all D2s and D1s…All of these D2s I’m comfortable throwing them somewhere around 475…The way that I’m dicing up courses is that I’m using these D2s and I know that by stability they’re gonna have different distances.”

D1 (400) 12 / 5 / 0 / 3 – The Prodigy Disc D1 is a very fast, overstable driver designed for power throwers. This driver is good for all conditions and flies as well into the wind as it does with the wind. The consistent flight path of this disc makes it a favorite of disc golfers looking not only for a long flight but pinpoint accuracy.

“If I’m going for max distance I’ll go with my D2s If I’m going for a landing zone I’ll go with my D1s.”
